You KNOW you need to make change in your family.

But WHY does it feel SO hard?

I get it. Because I've been there too.

In 2017, I had my 4 year old, 2.5 year old, and my baby at home with me...

And I felt trapped in a cycle of daily screen time too!

My kids were watching HOURS of TV every afternoon - "just one more episode, OK?" - which turned into two... three..

I had a mountain of washing on the couch, little boys with energy levels at 1000%, and I was TIRED. I couldn't even FATHOM getting through a day without screens.

I had no energy for "pinterest" play activities,
but kept circling back to them (fail, after fail, after fail)...

It was a vicious cycle that frustrated me, and so ON went the TV AGAIN!

But after I applied my specialist knowledge as an occupational therapist, our family's relationship with screens was completely transformed!

Why you can no longer afford to ignore your kids' screen time:

➡️ It's proven by research that preschoolers who spend longer on screens have poorer gross motor skills than their peers. Gross motor movement is foundational to success in later on in life. Gross motor is the foundation that other skills (handwriting, balance, sitting on the mat, sitting at their desks, even just having enough energy to get through their days) is built on.

➡️ Children who spend longer on screens have more trouble sleeping. Lack of sleep results in poorer behaviour during the day for these kids. It's proven by research that more time on screens results in parents reporting more "ADHD type" behaviours.

➡️ Children who spend more time on screens have more incidence of illness and more visits to the Dr. How much is it worth to YOU to have less time at the Dr? Let alone for your kids to have less episodes of unwellness.

➡️ More time on screens can mean less time in free play. Free play is the building block for creative thinking, social and emotional regulation, and children who spend more time in free play have greater success later on in life (Wallis, 2017).

➡️ More time on screens can lead to less connection with nature. Nature play is proven to have many cognitive, physical, and emotional benefits for child development.

And let's talk about the feelings for YOU...

When their kids are spending excess time on screens, their parents tell me that they:

🟥
feel out of alignment with the way they WANT to parent

🟥 feel GUILT over how much the TV is on

🟥 feel like they're not living according to their VALUES as a parent

🟥 feel lost and stuck, OVERWHELMED at the thought of changing

🟥 feel FRUSTRATION at how "everyone else" has it "sorted"

🟥 want to switch off from social media because they get TRIGGERED by other parent's "perfect lives"
